Celestron StarPointer Red Dot Finderscope – Simple, Accurate Targeting for Any Telescope

Looking for the easiest way to locate celestial objects and centre them in your telescope's eyepiece? The Celestron StarPointer Red Dot Finderscope offers a quick, intuitive, and user-friendly solution that’s ideal for beginners and seasoned astronomers alike. With its wide field of view, 1x magnification, and easy alignment process, this compact red dot finder makes star-hopping and telescope setup fast and frustration-free.

Effortless Aiming with a Red Dot

Unlike optical finderscopes, which offer magnified views that can sometimes confuse orientation, the StarPointer Red Dot Finderscope provides a true 1x (unity) magnification and a super wide field of view—matching what you see with your unaided eyes. An LED-generated red dot is projected onto a transparent viewing screen, allowing you to:

  • Aim your telescope with pinpoint accuracy

  • Keep the sky right-side up and correctly oriented left to right

  • Enjoy seamless transitions between unaided-eye sky scanning and telescope viewing

To use, simply move the telescope until the red dot is over your target, and—if properly aligned—that object will be visible in your eyepiece. It’s that simple.

Perfect for Beginners and Quick-Setup Telescopes

The StarPointer is ideal for new users, thanks to its intuitive operation and straightforward design. It eliminates the guesswork and makes celestial navigation easy—no need to interpret reversed or upside-down images. Whether you're aligning your telescope on a planet or hopping between stars in a constellation, the red dot helps you get on target quickly so you can spend more time observing and less time adjusting.

Combine with an Optical Finder for the Best of Both Worlds

Want magnification and ease of use? Many astronomers mount both a red dot finder and an optical finderscope on their telescopes. In fact, Schmidt-Cassegrain and EdgeHD telescopes often come with multiple mounting points, making it easy to equip both types of finder for added versatility. Just ensure both are aligned properly, and you’ll have a complete targeting solution for every observing situation.

How to Align Your StarPointer Finderscope

For accurate performance, you'll need to align your StarPointer the first time you use it. Follow this easy daytime setup procedure:

  1. Choose a distant object—like a street sign, tree, or lamppost—at least ¼ mile away.

  2. Point your telescope roughly toward it, and centre the object in your low-power eyepiece.

  3. Switch on the StarPointer’s red dot and look through the finder from about 12 inches away.

  4. Without moving the telescope, use the two adjustment knobs (side and bottom) to move the red dot until it aligns with the object centred in your eyepiece.

Once aligned, the StarPointer will maintain accuracy unless bumped or dropped. It can even be removed and reattached without losing alignment, making it highly convenient for transport and storage.

This helps us provide a wider range of specialist equipment and may result in slightly different delivery times.

Returns Policy

If something isn’t right, we’ll always try to help.

  • Unused items in “as new” condition can usually be returned within the statutory cooling-off period
  • Please contact us before sending anything back so we can advise on the safest way
  • For unwanted items, return shipping is your responsibility, and original shipping may be deducted where applicable
  • If a product is faulty or damaged, we’ll arrange repair, replacement or refund in line with your consumer rights — and we’ll cover reasonable return costs

What happens if I don't like it?

We always want you to be happy with your purchase — so if you’re unsure, please ask us first. We’re always happy to give honest advice before you buy.

If the product arrives and you simply decide it isn’t for you, you can usually return it within the cooling-off period — as long as it’s unused, in perfect condition, and returned with all original packaging and accessories.

Because telescopes and optical equipment are large, delicate and expensive to ship, you’ll need to cover the cost of sending it back, and if we originally subsidised delivery, we may deduct our outbound shipping costs from your refund.

We’re a small specialist business, and unnecessary returns genuinely hurt us — so if you’re unsure at all, please talk to us first. We’d rather help you choose the right item than process a return.

How fast is shipping?

We aim to ship in-stock items as quickly as possible.

  • Most in-stock orders dispatch within 1–2 working days
  • Delivery usually takes 1–3 working days after dispatch (UK mainland)
  • Heavier / oversized items and special orders may take a little longer

You’ll receive tracking details as soon as your order is on its way.

Astronomy equipment often requires specialist packing and trusted couriers — we do this to keep your gear safe, not to slow things down. If you need something urgently, just ask and we’ll do our best.
