The Sky-Watcher 1.25" Ultra High Contrast (UHC) Filter is a powerful narrowband filter designed to improve visibility of faint nebulae while reducing the effects of light pollution. Threaded to fit standard 1.25" eyepieces, it’s an excellent dark-sky companion for observers using small to medium aperture telescopes.

Reveal more structure in nebulae

By selectively transmitting key emission wavelengths and blocking much of the surrounding skyglow, the UHC filter enhances contrast and helps reveal delicate details that are otherwise difficult to see — especially from suburban observing sites.

It performs particularly well on targets such as:

  • Orion Nebula (M42)

  • Lagoon Nebula (M8)

  • Swan / Omega Nebula (M17)

  • Many other emission and planetary nebulae

Because it allows more light through than an O-III filter, the UHC is especially effective on smaller telescopes, maintaining image brightness while still suppressing light pollution.

Narrowband optical design

This UHC filter isolates:

  • Oxygen-III (O-III) lines at 496 & 501nm

  • Hydrogen-Beta (H-β) line at 486nm

The result is improved contrast, darker backgrounds and more visible structure in extended nebulae.
