Celestron EdgeHD 0.7x Focal Reducer – 8”

Unlock the full imaging potential of your Celestron 8” EdgeHD with this dedicated 0.7x focal reducer. Designed with a precision 4-element optical layout, it shortens your focal length for faster exposures and a wider field of view, all while preserving the acclaimed flat-field performance of the EdgeHD system. Perfect for deep-sky astrophotographers, it also ensures generous back focus for a variety of camera and accessory setups.

Key Features

  • Precision 4-Element Optical Design
Specifically engineered for the 8” EdgeHD OTA, this reducer maintains edge-to-edge sharpness and eliminates field curvature—ideal for APS-C sensors.

  • Wider Field, Faster Imaging
Reduces your focal ratio from f/10 to f/7, cutting exposure times in half and expanding your field of view by 43%—perfect for capturing larger deep-sky targets like galaxies and nebulae.

  • Ample 105mm Back Focus
Offers substantial back-focus to accommodate DSLRs, CCD/CMOS cameras, filter wheels, and off-axis guiders. Compatible with existing Celestron T-adapters and EdgeHD imaging accessories.

Optical Quality

  • Lanthanum Glass Elements
Incorporates exotic, rare-earth Lanthanum optics to enhance contrast and minimise chromatic aberration, even in high-resolution imaging.

  • Fully Multi-Coated Surfaces
All air-to-glass interfaces are treated with advanced coatings to ensure high light transmission and colour fidelity across the visual spectrum.

  • Edge-Blackened Optics
Internal reflections are reduced to a minimum thanks to precision-blackened lens edges, resulting in improved contrast and image clarity.

Designed for Imaging

  • Optimised for APS-C Sensors
Produces an illuminated image circle ideal for most DSLR and dedicated astro cameras, including Celestron Nightscape.

  • Intermediate Focal Solution
Complements the EdgeHD system’s flexibility by providing a middle ground between native f/10 and ultra-fast f/2 imaging with a HyperStar system (sold separately).

Mechanical Excellence

  • CNC-Machined Aluminium Housing
Delivers exceptional durability and precise spacing for optical elements, maintaining collimation and performance over time.

  • Protective End Caps
Includes metal-threaded covers to shield both ends of the lens assembly from dust, moisture, and accidental scratches during transport or storage.

  • Direct Threaded Mounting
Attaches securely to the rear of the 8” EdgeHD via 2” threads for a firm, aligned fit with minimal risk of tilt or flexure.

Summary

  • Custom 4-element design matched to 8” EdgeHD optics

  • Reduces focal ratio from f/10 to f/7 for shorter exposures

  • 105mm back focus supports full imaging setups

  • Optimised for APS-C sensors

  • Premium Lanthanum glass and multi-coated surfaces

  • CNC-machined housing with protective caps

  • Bridges the gap between native and HyperStar imaging speeds

Turn your 8” EdgeHD into a highly adaptable imaging platform with this premium focal reducer—designed to meet the needs of both backyard imagers and serious astrophotographers alike.

Order Fulfilment

Some items, as clearly stated on the product page, may be fulfilled directly by our partners or manufacturers. In these cases, your order will be shipped to you straight from the brand’s warehouse. This helps us provide a wider range of specialist equipment and may result in slightly different delivery times.

Returns Policy

If something isn’t right, we’ll always try to help.

  • Unused items in “as new” condition can usually be returned within the statutory cooling-off period
  • Please contact us before sending anything back so we can advise on the safest way
  • For unwanted items, return shipping is your responsibility, and original shipping may be deducted where applicable
  • If a product is faulty or damaged, we’ll arrange repair, replacement or refund in line with your consumer rights — and we’ll cover reasonable return costs

Telescope shipping is expensive, and specialist — avoidable returns really do impact our business, so we always encourage customers to ask questions before buying. We’re here to help you get it right first time.

Your statutory rights are not affected.

Does it come with a warranty?

All our products are UK stock so come with manufacturers warranty

What happens if I don't like it?

We always want you to be happy with your purchase — so if you’re unsure, please ask us first. We’re always happy to give honest advice before you buy.

If the product arrives and you simply decide it isn’t for you, you can usually return it within the cooling-off period — as long as it’s unused, in perfect condition, and returned with all original packaging and accessories.

Because telescopes and optical equipment are large, delicate and expensive to ship, you’ll need to cover the cost of sending it back, and if we originally subsidised delivery, we may deduct our outbound shipping costs from your refund.

We’re a small specialist business, and unnecessary returns genuinely hurt us — so if you’re unsure at all, please talk to us first. We’d rather help you choose the right item than process a return.

How fast is shipping?

We aim to ship in-stock items as quickly as possible.

  • Most in-stock orders dispatch within 1–2 working days
  • Delivery usually takes 1–3 working days after dispatch (UK mainland)
  • Heavier / oversized items and special orders may take a little longer

You’ll receive tracking details as soon as your order is on its way.

Astronomy equipment often requires specialist packing and trusted couriers — we do this to keep your gear safe, not to slow things down. If you need something urgently, just ask and we’ll do our best.
