Pulsar Alaris XG30 Thermal Imaging Monocular

High-Resolution Thermal Imaging in a Pocket-Sized Design

The Pulsar Alaris XG30 is a compact, high-resolution thermal imaging monocular created for wildlife observation, nature surveys and outdoor exploration. Combining a detailed 640×480, 12µm thermal sensor with an exceptionally wide 14.6° field of view, it makes locating and following wildlife quick and intuitive—even in complete darkness.

Despite its pocket-sized dimensions, the Alaris XG30 provides a detection range of up to 1300 metres, variable 2–16x magnification, built-in recording and a rugged waterproof magnesium-alloy body. Its straightforward controls and ambidextrous design make it a capable everyday thermal monocular for beginners and experienced observers alike.

Detailed 640×480 Thermal Sensor

The Alaris XG30 features a sensitive 640×480 thermal imaging sensor with a 12µm pixel pitch. Its high resolution captures fine thermal details and subtle variations in temperature, producing a clear, low-noise image with excellent contrast.

The monocular detects heat rather than relying on visible light, allowing wildlife and other heat-emitting subjects to be located during the day, after sunset or in complete darkness. It can also remain effective in difficult conditions such as fog, mist and light vegetation.

Extra-Wide 14.6° Field of View

A generous 14.6° × 9.2° field of view allows large areas to be scanned efficiently. The wide viewing angle makes it easier to locate wildlife quickly, follow moving animals and maintain awareness of the surrounding environment.

This makes the Alaris XG30 particularly useful for scanning fields, woodland edges and other areas where subjects may appear suddenly or move unpredictably.

Flexible 2–16x Magnification

The XG30 combines a practical 2x base magnification with digital zoom extending up to 16x. The lower magnification supports comfortable wide-area scanning, while the higher settings allow a detected subject to be examined more closely.

This versatile range lets users move easily between locating a heat signature and observing its shape, movement and behaviour in greater detail.

Compact and Easy to Carry

Designed for maximum portability, the Pulsar Alaris XG30 fits comfortably in the hand, pocket or a small equipment bag. It is an ideal companion for wildlife walks, hiking, camping, travel and spontaneous nighttime observation.

Its symmetrical, ambidextrous design provides comfortable operation for both left- and right-handed users.

Nine Thermal Colour Palettes

Nine selectable colour palettes allow the display to be adapted to different environments, subjects and viewing preferences. Individual palettes can help highlight heat signatures, improve the visibility of background details or provide a more comfortable image during extended observation.

Adjustable brightness and contrast controls provide further flexibility, allowing the thermal image to be tailored to the surrounding conditions.

Three Sensitivity Amplification Levels

Three sensitivity amplification settings help optimise image clarity across different temperatures and weather conditions.

These levels work alongside the monocular’s image-processing technology to improve subject definition, reveal subtle thermal differences and provide a clearer view when there is limited temperature contrast between wildlife and the surrounding landscape.

Built-In Photo and Video Recorder

Capture wildlife encounters and other observations using the integrated photo and video recorder. One-touch operation helps you begin recording quickly when an unexpected subject appears.

Images and footage are saved to the monocular’s internal memory, making it easy to review observations, document wildlife activity or share memorable moments later.

Replaceable APS3 Rechargeable Battery

The Pulsar Alaris XG30 is powered by a removable APS3 rechargeable battery. Its quick-change design allows the battery to be replaced with a charged spare during longer observation sessions.

USB-C connectivity enables convenient charging from compatible mains adapters, laptops and portable power banks, providing added flexibility while travelling or working in the field.

Frost-Resistant AMOLED Display

A frost-resistant AMOLED display provides a clear, responsive and high-contrast thermal image. It is engineered to maintain dependable performance in cold weather, helping the XG30 remain usable throughout the year.

The monocular has a wide operating temperature range of -25°C to +50°C, making it suitable for demanding outdoor conditions.

Rugged Magnesium-Alloy Housing

The XG30’s magnesium-alloy body combines low weight with excellent durability. It helps protect the internal components against the impacts, knocks and everyday wear associated with regular outdoor use.

An IPX7 waterproof rating provides dependable protection during heavy rain and in wet environments, allowing observation to continue when the weather changes.

Ideal for Wildlife and Outdoor Observation

The Pulsar Alaris XG30 is well suited to:

  • Observing nocturnal wildlife

  • Locating animals and roosting birds

  • Scanning fields, woodland and hedgerows

  • Nature surveys and conservation work

  • Garden wildlife observation

  • Hiking, camping and outdoor exploration

  • Detecting heat signatures in poor visibility

Thermal monoculars detect heat-emitting terrestrial subjects and are not designed for conventional observation of stars, planets or other celestial objects.

Does it come with a warranty?

All our products are UK stock so come with manufacturers warranty

What happens if I don't like it?

We always want you to be happy with your purchase — so if you’re unsure, please ask us first. We’re always happy to give honest advice before you buy.

If the product arrives and you simply decide it isn’t for you, you can usually return it within the cooling-off period — as long as it’s unused, in perfect condition, and returned with all original packaging and accessories.

Because telescopes and optical equipment are large, delicate and expensive to ship, you’ll need to cover the cost of sending it back, and if we originally subsidised delivery, we may deduct our outbound shipping costs from your refund.

We’re a small specialist business, and unnecessary returns genuinely hurt us — so if you’re unsure at all, please talk to us first. We’d rather help you choose the right item than process a return.

How fast is shipping?

We aim to ship in-stock items as quickly as possible.

  • Most in-stock orders dispatch within 1–2 working days
  • Delivery usually takes 1–3 working days after dispatch (UK mainland)
  • Heavier / oversized items and special orders may take a little longer

You’ll receive tracking details as soon as your order is on its way.

Astronomy equipment often requires specialist packing and trusted couriers — we do this to keep your gear safe, not to slow things down. If you need something urgently, just ask and we’ll do our best.
